Around midnight on 17 January 2015, Miller was spotted by two students at Stanford University being sexually assaulted by a third student as she lay unconscious on the ground behind some bins. She was assaulted by Brock Turner, a Stanford athelete. He was sentenced to six moths and only served three. There was a public outrage at the textbook example of double standards, where sentencing o the "old boys club" member was ever so lenient.
